ACCELERATED READER

Chairpersons: Purvi Arora & Rochelle Adkinson

What is Accelerated Reader (AR)?

AR is a great resource to encourage your child to read. It is an optional program the Pierce PTA offers to all students grades 2-5. Kids take comprehension quizzes based on books they have read at home or in the library. They gain points for correct answers. Points are “harvested” every six weeks. Students will have the opportunity to get a t-shirt and iron-on stars for each level reached. If they achieve the gold star at the end of the year, they will get to attend the “AR Bounce” event with pizza, bounce houses, and games.

Students are meant to take the tests without parental help.

To participate, students simply read books, take reading-comprehension quizzes and earn points based on correct answers.

However, if your child would like to participate in the tournament, parent participation is required. For more information please refer to the the Math Pentathlon website.

If you have any questions or wish to be added to the email list, please email piercemathp@gmail.com.

Experience has shown that children whose parents play the games at home are more successful in learning the games. Grade specific games are available for purchase at www.mathpentath.org.
